Summer Celebration 2013

Last Tuesday, the Orchard Garden welcomed guests to the garden for the 3rd Annual Summer Celebration. With the help of 6 fantastic enhanced practicum students (teachers to-be, participating an informal learning situation), we put together a great program.

Heather and Vivian harvesting kohlrabi
We started out the day by harvesting for the Community Supported Agriculture box program, and harvesting vegetables for our lunch feast. Lunch consisted of potato salad, green salad, fresh radishes and kohlrabi, kale pesto, daikon salad - all from the garden. Julia brought a strawberry rhubarb crisp to finish. Karine and Ticwtkwa had a tea table, where they made tea from the garden. Lemon balm was a featured tea, rosemary, sage and lavender was another. Mint was the third selection.

Another table was full of art activities. We had pressed flowers and flax twine for making bookmarks, as well as paints, and pencil crayons for making "egg-carton caterpillars".

Susan serenaded us through the event, with her garden-themed songs. We had a few words to kick off the event, led by Julia. She read a poem which spoke to her about garden learning. All in all it was great event, enjoyed by all.
