The Cultivating Learning Network (CLN) serves as a living laboratory in garden-based learning for UBC faculty, staff, and students, providing opportunities for teaching, learning, research, and community engagement spanning the disciplines and pedagogies.
The CLN programs include The UBC Orchard Garden at Totem Field, The Intergenerational Landed Learning Project at UBC Farm, and Roots on the Roof in the Nest Rooftop.
We envision relevant, real-world, interdisciplinary learning outside the classroom cultivating ecological stewardship, healthy eating, and the wellbeing of communities.
Mission:
The Cultivating Learning Network (CLN) cultivates teaching and learning gardens, learning communities, and on-line forums for knowledge sharing to support students and faculty in teaching, learning, and researching in real world, outdoor settings.
We conceive the CLN as including:
🌱People involved in garden-based learning at UBC, in the Lower Mainland, and worldwide;
🌱Places where we engage in garden-based learning; and
🌱online spaces where we share ideas and experiences.
The CLN invites faculty, staff, and students to engage in teaching, learning, and research with our garden sites and communities.
