Ropemaking, Weaving, and Weeding

Today was an enjoyable day spent ropemaking, weaving and weeding. We began the day by harvesting Himalayan blackberry bark. Available to us for ropemaking were previously harvested daylily leaves, bulrushes, and blackberry bark which we rehydrated to make flexible and soft enough to work with. Ropemaking can be done with fresh blackberry bark but they shrink and the sap makes them more brittle. After peeling the blackberry bark, we dried them in the sun. Here are photos taken of activities from today. It was satisfying learning how to make rope using rehydrated bulrushes which I made into a friendship bracelet. Weaving bulrushes was relaxing. I have gained a newfound appreciation for nature from today's activities.
